Study points to brain chemical involved in obesity

Though more studies are required to establish a compelling link between the two, tests should be developed in the meantime to measure the chemical level for patients at most risk of developing obesity. This should be treated in the framework of preventing obesity and not used as an excuse for obesity. While states such as Alabama are compelled to take a tough line in the fight against obesity and resulting chronic diseases from a financial perspective, it will also be necessary to approach the problem from a health science perspective as well. Biological reasons are a part of the problem. That is without a doubt. There are some who are genetically predisposed to obesity, yes, but that is certainly not the case for everyone that is obese. While Alabama initiative may work for who only require behavioral adaptation to the financial costs imposed on them, those with a genetic/biological factor will need the help of scientific research on the issue, development of tests and drugs to counter the problem.I don't see the two approaches as polemic: where one has to be right and the other wrong. Rather, taken together, both form a holistic approach to the problems of obesity and the resulting chronic disease.
