Ban on fast food TV ads may reverse childhood obesity trends

An article on the Physorg website discusses a new research findings about the effects of fast food advertising on children. It suggests that a ban on fast food advertisements would result in significant reduction in childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is probably the key target group to effect longterm changes in the nation's health trends.

Key findings from the study show that a ban on fast food television ads during children's programing:
  • 18% reduction of overweight children between ages 3-11.
  • 14% reduction of overweight children between ages 12-18.
  • effects prominent in males than females.
However, I would not be too happy if I were in the fast food industry especially with issues of First Amendment rights and censorship coming up with a proposed ban.
