Sen. Tom Harkin urges change in healthcare mindset.

Sen. Tom Harkin says that "we've got to change the mindset from treating sick people to preventing illnesses in the first place," this according to an article in NaturalNews.com. One of the ways to bring this about is to continue reducing smoking rates in our populations and increasing dietary habits and physical activity. While many may seem skeptical about preventive care, the article states that,
"within two years, investment in community health programs could lead to a 5 percent reduction in rates of diabetes and high blood pressure, while significantly reducing rates of arthritis and some kinds of cancer within only 10 to 20 years."
The article also highlights that every dollar spent on preventive care would save $5.60 in future healthcare cost. "Investing just $10 per person could lead to savings of more than $16 billion per year within only five years."
