"People with psoriasis have higher levels of the obesity-related hormone leptin than those without psoriasis, new research shows." While there is no causal relationship, you could infer that people suffering from psoriasis are at a higher risk of suffering from obesity than non=psoriasis effected people.
Additionally, the article discusses how:
"Body weight loss has been reported to significantly decrease leptin levels and improve insulin sensitivity and may reduce the likelihood of developing metabolic syndrome and adverse cardiovascular diseases," the researchers concluded. "Body weight loss could potentially become part of the general treatment of psoriasis, especially in patients with obesity."
But what is liptin? Previous studies suggest that liptin "helps control food intake, body weight and fat stores" and "also plays a role in immune and inflammatory processes."
While the study is preliminary, it does suggest that psoriasis patient who suffer from obesity would benefit doubly from weight reduction by improving their psoriasis condition but also from the longer term effects of reduced chances of developing diabetes, and heart diseases.
