Mental health, obesity and the food choices we make.

I think this really addresses the problem that we as Americans face. A lot of people suffer through multiple diet programs only to revert to old eating habits. Success really requires bringing about a change in our mind. There has to be a change in what we want and developing a completely new attitude towards the food choices we make. Diet programs may temporarily change our weight, but the change that is required to keep the weight off is undoubtedly psychological.

It is a definite challenge in how to help millions of people make this mental change. According to current trends, the disease of obesity is on a steady rise. While obesity is the cause of a number of diseases, is obesity itself a symptom of deeper problems?

It makes sense then, why psychological services are being proposed as part any health reform from both camps, even though it is only part of the solution. Hopefully, greater access to this type of services will save people from having to roll that rock up the hill again and again.
